Hello, my name is Emily Mae Widrick. I create jewelry from sterling silver and recently started working with copper and bronze. I was taught and am always learning from my grandparents, Pat and Butch Bramhall along with my aunt, Lisa Nortz. As a 3rd generation silversmith, I bring together over 60 years of combined experience with a young, fun fly by the seat of my pants attitude towards metalworking.
Every experience I’ve had to this very day in my life inspires me. Growing up I was surrounded by nature and am continuously fascinated by the simple ripple a bug would make in our pond to the intricate growth pattern of bark on a tree. Not only nature but the wonderful people I meet nurture my imagination and allow me to create pieces as unique as each one of their personalities. Although I am inspired by my own experiences, I also incorporate the unsurpassed creations of my family and the traditions of silversmithing.
The designs I build are done completely by hand. The metal starts out as a sheet or reel, from there I hammer, saw, solder, file, shape, anneal, reticulate, pickle and/or shine myself. One of my most irreplicable designs come from reticulation, which is heating the sterling to a molten state and cooling it. This forms a look that reminds me of how the water flows over the rocks at High Falls, which Ive spent a lot of my childhood canoeing up the river to and exploring. My intentional designs as well as my impulsive creations are one of a kind. I enjoy working with my hands and am thankful to be able to express my artistic nature through a medium such as jewelry. I have learned to appreciate every part of life and hope you can feel this through my works of art and appreciate life’s beauty.
I did most of my growing up on a dairy farm in gods country, New York. I received a full lacrosse scholarship to Rutgers University in New Jersey, I played all 4 years and graduated with my bachelors degree in psychology and sociology. All of my experiences have created many opportunities for me to learn my life lessons for appreciating the world. My mother, Tammy Bramhall has allowed me to learn how to live and be open for life. I can not put into words what she means to me. Thank you to everyone who has passed through my life in the past, present, and future. And thank you for giving me your time.
